A metal base, such as gold, silver or copper, is used for enamelling. The metal base is covered with a thin layer of transparent enamel which is heated between 800 and 850 degrees and the different models and designs formed out of gold wires are transposed on it and integrated to it by fire. Each model will receive a different colouring enamel and the numerous layers of fired enamels will constitute the final coloured design.

Champlevé enamel is applied to engraved plates whose bas-reliefs are filled with enamel up to the surface of the object.

Painted enamel, used for miniatures and for the decoration of other enamels, is ground and mixed with essential oils.

Ornamented plates, small cut-out motifs from gold, silver or platinum sheets, are used for the decoration of finished objects, embodying the enamel on which they are carefully placed.
